Romestead Patch Notes Tracker
Last updated: 2026-08-22
Romestead is in Early Access and Beartwigs shipped hotfixes near-daily through launch. After the 0.25.1 series the Public Beta Branch moved to 0.25.2 — the latest numbered patch is 0.25.2_5 (July 10), and the Autumn Update lands August 31, 2026. This page tracks the notable patches in plain English with notes on which of our guides are affected. For granular per-build changelogs, see SteamDB.
The Autumn Update is dated: August 31, 2026. Beartwigs broke a quiet summer with a studio update on August 18 confirming the first grand step of the roadmap ships on the 31st — full controller support, "Furniture Mode" removed, 30+ new dungeons, a Challenge Dungeon rework, worldgen fixes and a QoL batch. You'll need to create a new world to see the new dungeons. Full breakdown on our Autumn Update page. Note the "spooky" fourth biome is not in this update — it's still targeted for winter, along with the later Swamp and Ruined City biomes. Until the 31st, 0.25.2_5 (July 10) remains the latest numbered patch.
The Logistics Tent is now a reward for defeating the Guardian of Minerva — it used to drop from Pyzifax. This dramatically accelerates the automation timeline. Players can now access the full auto-routing + repeatable orders system right after the Owl fight, not after Pyzifax. Our automation guide and Guardian guide have been updated.
Patches usually deploy after 17:00 CEST (Swedish working day end). If you're playing during US morning hours, you'll likely see fresh patches when you start your session.
Announcement: Post-summer Studio Update — August 18, 2026
Type: Studio announcement (not a patch) — dates the Autumn Update
- The Autumn Update releases August 31, 2026. Beartwigs calls it "the first grand step of our Roadmap." It's the quality-of-life, controller and dungeon-variety milestone the June roadmap promised before the end of summer.
- Full controller support is coming, built on the Steam Input API. If you previously disabled Steam Input as the community controller fix, re-enable it on the 31st — see the Steam Deck & controller guide.
- "Furniture Mode" is being removed. Instead of pressing R to toggle it, you'll press and hold the interact button (E by default) to pick up the workbench, barricades and other furniture.
- Over 30 new dungeons across the world, plus a Challenge Dungeon update with 70+ new rooms that removes being repeatedly killed at the entrance. World Generation was updated too, including a fix for weird desert entrance generation.
- A new world is required to see the new dungeons and worldgen — existing saves keep working and still get every code-side change, they just won't contain the new layouts. Our Autumn Update page covers what you keep versus what you lose.
- QoL: farmland removal tool, decoration demolition returning materials, sleeping in a wider range of beds, better citizen pathfinding, and the Carpenter now helping repair constructions. Small animals you pick up no longer despawn.
- Multiplayer: further connection improvements including a network connection indicator, with feedback requested via the opt-in Beta Branch.
Guide impact Significant, and mostly on the 31st rather than today. The controller guide's core advice inverts; barricade and furniture handling changes; the Carpenter gains a repair role; and worldgen changes mean any pre-August-31 seed is version-locked. We've flagged all of these on the affected pages already and will publish the real changelog here on patch day. This is not the fourth-biome drop — that's targeted for winter.
Beta Branch 0.25.2_5 — July 10, 2026
Type: Public Beta Branch quality-of-life & boss patch
- Demolishing upgraded buildings now refunds the previous tiers' materials — a big base-management win. Tearing down an upgraded workshop to relocate it no longer eats everything you sank into the upgrades. See how demolishing works in our building & upgrades guide.
- Demolishing Decorations now returns their materials too — you can rearrange Appeal decorations without losing the Lumber/materials.
- New Farmland removal tool, and the Crop removal tool now returns the crop's seed — you can reclaim and replant farmland cleanly instead of losing the seed.
- You can now sleep in more types of beds — not just the basic bedroll. See the sleeping & respawn section.
- New experimental Phoenix fight changes — the Great Phoenix of Arabia fight is being tuned; expect its behaviour to shift while this is experimental.
- Cyclops fight progression fix — fixed the Cyclops boss fight sometimes being unable to progress (a fix if you've been soft-locked mid-fight).
- Desert reachability fix — fixed parts of the desert not being possible to reach on some worlds.
Guide impact Real gameplay changes this time: demolish now refunds materials (buildings + decorations), farmland/crops are removable, and more beds are sleepable. We've folded these into the building-upgrades, beginners and boss guides. The Phoenix changes are flagged experimental — treat our Phoenix numbers as in-flux until they settle.
Beta Branch 0.25.2_4 — July 1, 2026
Type: Public Beta Branch stability & polish patch
- Many rare crashes fixed, along with a save-data corruption fix — the headline reason to update. A broad stability pass across the game.
- Stat decimals now display correctly — stats that were hiding their decimal points now show them (handy when reading citizen stats).
- Bronze Cart no longer falls through cliffs — a physics fix for the cart.
- Multiplayer & performance improvements — better network efficiency and CPU-core usage for smoother co-op.
- Thai language support added, plus a long list of smaller bug fixes across decorations, buildings, dungeons and puzzles. We summarise the headline items here — for the full per-build changelog see SteamDB.
Guide impact None of the 0.25.2_4 changes alter game mechanics our guides describe — it's a stability, UI and localisation patch. Nothing to relearn; just update for the crash/save fixes.
Beta Branch 0.25.2_2 — June 25, 2026
Type: Public Beta Branch hotfix
- World loading issues fixed — addresses worlds that failed to load.
- Bombs fixed — bombs that weren't working properly now function.
- New Bakery recipe: Sausage — another food option for the kitchen tier. Added to our Food guide.
- Automatic Scorpios no longer damage player-built structures — a big quality-of-life win for turret defense; you can now ring your base with Scorpios without them chipping your own walls and buildings.
Beta Branch 0.25.2_1 — June 17, 2026
Type: Public Beta Branch update
- Multiplayer stability and connection handling improved — smoother hosting/joining for co-op.
The 0.25.2 patches are on Steam's opt-in Public Beta Branch (right-click Romestead → Properties → Betas). They typically roll into the default branch once stable.
Hotfixes 0.25.1_8 – 0.25.1_12 — early–mid June 2026
Type: Continued near-daily hotfixes (through June 10)
- Beartwigs kept up the rapid hotfix cadence after 0.25.1_7, rolling through 0.25.1_12 (June 10) with ongoing bug fixes, stability work, and balance tuning.
- We're summarising these as a block rather than reproducing every line — for the exact per-build notes, check SteamDB's patch history. We'll call out any change that affects a guide here as we verify it in-game.
Hotfix 0.25.1_7 — June 1, 2026
Type: Major-ish hotfix
- Logistics Tent is now a reward for defeating the Guardian of Minerva (previously Pyzifax). Automation comes much earlier in progression now.
- Material Storage capacity increased — with significant boosts to upgraded versions. Less juggling of carried items.
- Citizen trait distribution changed: negative traits now only appear on citizens who ALSO have positive traits. No more pure-negative recruits.
- Gates auto-open and close for players and carts. Hugely reduces friction for cart routes through walled bases.
