Pyzifax the Satyr Boss Guide
Pyzifax is the volcanic-biome boss in Romestead and the gatekeeper of the single most-wanted unlock in the game: the Logistics Tent, which finally enables real automation between your buildings. He's also one of the trickier fights — especially the 50%-HP fireball phase. Here's the trigger, the strategy, and what to bring.

Why this fight matters
Up to this point in Romestead, your settlement is held together with manual hauling. Citizens carry resources between buildings on their own slow logic, watermills don't have output chests, and you can't queue infinite production. Players complain about this constantly on the Steam forums. The fix — the Logistics Tent — is locked behind Pyzifax.
Beating Pyzifax is the moment Romestead's economy starts running itself. Beat him, then read our Automation guide to wire everything up.
How to trigger the fight
Pyzifax doesn't spawn in a fixed location like the Guardian's nest. You have to provoke him through a multi-step chain:
- Push into Satyr territory. The Satyrs occupy a fortress region inside or bordering the Volcanic biome.
- Receive a Satyr war declaration. A Satyr messenger will travel to your settlement and deliver a formal declaration of war — you'll get an explicit on-screen prompt.
- Accept the declaration. Declining defers the conflict; accepting triggers the next step.
- Survive the Satyr raid on your settlement. A wave of Satyr warriors and rangers will attack. Survive and Pyzifax's location is revealed.
- Travel to Pyzifax's location and engage him directly.
Surviving the Satyr raid first
The raid is its own challenge. Before accepting the war declaration:
- Upgrade your walls to stone at minimum. Wood walls won't hold against Satyrs.
- Place at least one Automatic Scorpio (auto-targeting turret) covering the main approach. Two is better.
- Stockpile arrows for any citizen archers you have.
- Position citizens inside the perimeter before the raid. Citizens caught outside will die fast and you'll lose levels permanently (permadeath).
- Note: the Satyr Ranger spawn rate was increased in patch 0.25.1_1 — expect more ranged pressure than guides written pre-patch suggest.
Recommended gear
- Armor: Full Bronze set at minimum. Desert-tier or Feathered armor is comfortable. Don't try this in leather.
- Melee: Bronze Spatha (best early sword) or a Bronze-tier Hasta.
- Ranged: Recurve Hunter's Bow with a full quiver. Magic scrolls if you've invested in the path.
- Healing: 8–10 stacked healing foods. The fireball phase will burn through them.
- Consider: a fire-resistance buff if you've found one. Pyzifax leans heavily on fire damage.
Phase 1: melee and projectiles
The opening half of the fight is a melee-dominated dance. Pyzifax uses heavy weapon swings and intermittent ranged attacks. Familiar Romestead combat patterns apply — windup, dodge, punish.
- Watch the wide horizontal swings. They have a long telegraph and a wide hit arc. Dodge backward or through, not sideways.
- Don't get cornered. Pyzifax's volcanic arena has obstacles; getting boxed in is the fastest way to die.
- Chip steadily. Don't go for big damage windows — consistent 2-hit poke-and-retreat is safer than chasing combos.
Phase 2: the fireball series
At 50% HP, Pyzifax transitions into his signature mechanic: a fireball series. He'll launch a sequence of fireballs that home/track, with one big telegraphed projectile at the end.
- Identify the cue. When his HP bar hits half, he raises his staff/horn (telegraph). Get distance immediately.
- Dodge laterally, not backward. The fireballs track; lateral movement breaks the lock faster than straight retreat.
- Save dodge stamina. The series is several fireballs in a row — running out of dodge mid-series is what kills players.
- The final telegraphed projectile hits hardest. Dodge through it (i-frames during the dash) rather than trying to outrun it.
- After the series ends, he's in recovery. This is your damage window — close and unload.
Pyzifax resets to full HP on respawn. Corpse retrieval in the volcanic arena is risky — you'll often die again on the way back. Pack light and consider leaving your best gear in storage before engaging.
Drops & Logistics Tent
The guaranteed drop is the Logistics Tent. Place it in your settlement after the fight and it enables auto-routing of resources between buildings. This is the moment your economy stops being a chore.
Other drops include Pyzifax-specific crafting materials for endgame gear (specifics still being documented in patches).
Place the Logistics Tent central to your workshop cluster. Then re-plan your base — you can finally chain Watermill → Bakery → Food Storage without manual hauling. See our Automation guide for the optimal chains.
