Romestead Cyclops Boss Guide
Last updated: 2026-06-04 (screenshots added)
If you're stuck on Minerva's Virgil's Poem quest and you've been searching a dungeon called "The Eye" because every guide says that's where the Cyclops lives — you're looking in the wrong place. Every other Romestead guide online has this wrong. The Cyclops is in the High Temple of the Satyrs, not "The Eye." Here's the actual location, the full loot table, and why this fight matters.
Multiple major guide sites (TheGamer, GameRant, several wikis) say the Cyclops is found at the end of a dungeon called "The Eye." Romestead's Beartwigs apparently changed this during EA development, but the old guides stuck around. The Cyclops is in the High Temple of the Satyrs. If you've been searching the wrong dungeon, that's why you can't find it.

Why this fight matters
The Cyclops is the third major boss in Romestead's progression after the Giant Owl (Guardian of Minerva) and Pyzifax. Killing it:
- Drops the Granite Tooth, the quest item required for Minerva's Virgil's Poem — which unlocks Brick Oven, Carpenter's Workshop Level 2, Altar Level 3, and the Declaration of War craftable recipe.
- Drops Tectonic Armor — a Volcanic-biome-ready armor with built-in fire resistance.
- Drops crafting materials (Cyclops Shard, Nail of the Cyclops) used for high-tier gear at the Carpenter and Blacksmith.
- Drops the Traveler's Coin, a return-home consumable.
It's also the bridge to the Volcanic biome content — the Tectonic Armor's fire resistance is specifically what you want before pushing into Pyzifax's home territory.
Where to find the Cyclops
The Cyclops is located inside the High Temple of the Satyrs — a major dungeon-style structure in or near the Desert biome (Satyr territory borders the desert). NOT in a dungeon called "The Eye" (despite what older guides say).
- Push into Satyr territory in the Desert / Desert-Volcanic border region.
- The High Temple is a distinct large structure with classical Roman architecture — harder to mistake for a regular dungeon entrance.
- Inside, the Cyclops is the major encounter you'll fight at the temple's interior boss arena.
The route into the High Temple takes you through Satyr-populated areas. You may pick up a Malformed Satyr Horn from Satyrs along the way — that's a separate quest item for Minerva that reveals Pyzifax's hideout. Worth picking up while you're already in the area.
Recommended gear
- Armor: Full Bronze set at minimum. Feathered tier (from the Owl) works well too.
- Weapon: Bronze-tier or better. Spear (Hasta) or ranged (bow with arrows) are reliable; Cyclops fights tend to reward distance management.
- Healing: Stack healing foods. The Cyclops hits hard.
- Bring: a Traveler's Coin if you've found one, to escape if things go sideways. The Cyclops will drop more anyway.
Full loot table
Confirmed contents from the Cyclops's Divine Chest (post-kill):
| Item | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Granite Tooth | Quest / Material | The quest item for Minerva's Virgil's Poem. Flavor: "What value is security, if villages are destroyed for its creation?" |
| Cyclops Shard | Material | "A skilled crafter could make some powerful equipment with this." |
| Nail of the Cyclops | Material | "A skilled crafter could make some powerful equipment with this." |
| Traveler's Coin | Consumable | "Flips the coin and returns you home." Teleport-to-spawn item. Sells for 40 copper. Also a Mercury altar offering. |
| Tectonic Armor | Armor (chest) | +11 Armor, +15 Health, +15% Fire Resistance. See Tectonic Armor section. |
| (Additional Tectonic-tier weapons/gear) | Various | Tectonic Maul, Tectonic Scroll, Tectonic Crossbow also exist as Cyclops-related drops per patch notes |
Granite Tooth & Virgil's Poem
The Granite Tooth is the most progression-critical drop. Minerva's Virgil's Poem quest reads:
"As my memories return, so do my desires. I sense that an ancient creature long buried has awoken, hidden beneath the desert sands. It is familiar yet I cannot place it, yet even in my diminished state I feel a searing hostility. Find it and offer a trophy upon our altar..."
Take the Granite Tooth back to your altar and offer it to Minerva. Rewards:
- Brick Oven — new building
- Carpenter's Workshop - Level 2 upgrade unlocked
- Altar - Level 3 upgrade unlocked
- Declaration of War craftable recipe (lets you trigger Satyr raids deliberately)
- Plus Blacksmith and Leatherworker recipes, Granite Effigy decoration recipe
So one Cyclops kill cascades into a ton of mid-game unlocks. Full Minerva quest detail in our Gods guide.
Tectonic Armor
The chest's signature gear drop:
- +11 Armor
- +15 Health
- +15% Fire Resistance
- Flavor: "Wearing this armor makes you feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders."
The Fire Resistance is the headline stat — it makes Volcanic biome content (including Pyzifax) noticeably safer. Equip immediately for any push into the volcano. Tectonic-tier weapons (Maul, Scroll, Crossbow) appear in the same drop pool per patch notes.
What unlocks after killing the Cyclops
Beyond the Virgil's Poem rewards, killing the Cyclops opens up:
- Mercury's serious blessing tree — his higher-tier blessings require Research Paper offerings, which become available post-Cyclops.
- Significant Pursuit (Mercury quest) — offer Traveler's Coin + Research Paper → unlocks the University building.
- Volcanic biome push — with Tectonic Armor's fire resistance, you're equipped for the volcano content including Pyzifax.
So the Cyclops sits at the pivot point of the mid-game — both Minerva's and Mercury's progression chains accelerate after this fight.
