Romestead Roadmap: What's Next

Last updated: 2026-07-02

Romestead launched into Steam Early Access in late May 2026 and is being built out in the open. This is our read of what's coming next — the two remaining biomes, the sixth boss, and the developer's own guidance on timing. We keep this page current as plans firm up, so bookmark it if you want the short version of "where is Romestead going?"

How to read this

Beartwigs plans around content goals, not fixed dates. Everything below is either confirmed in-game data or the developer's stated direction — where we give a timeframe, treat it as an estimate that can slip. For the granular patch history, see the patch tracker.

Where the game is now

As of mid-2026, Romestead is a feature-rich Early Access city-builder-survival with four biomes, five bosses, eight starting classes, the Favour/skill system, and full production automation. It's in continuous-hotfix mode — the public beta branch (the 0.25.2 line) gets frequent stability and balance patches while the bigger content drops are built behind the scenes.

The two remaining biomes

Romestead is planned as a six-biome world. Four are live — Plains, Forest, Desert, and Volcanic — and two are still to come:

BiomeStatusWhat we expect
SwampPlanned (next major)Expected to boost farmland/agriculture and add its own resources and threats. Likely the first of the two to land.
Ruined CityPlanned (later)A ruins/exploration region — the deeper of the two additions, expected after Swamp.

Note there is no snow or tundra biome on the roadmap — a point of confusion on some other sites. The six-biome plan is Plains, Forest, Desert, Volcanic, Swamp, Ruined City.

The sixth boss

The five bosses you can fight today are the Guardian of Minerva (Giant Owl), the Cyclops, Pyzifax, the Great Phoenix of Arabia, and the Talos Prototype. A sixth boss — referred to in the game files as a "Robot" — exists in the data but is not yet playable. Expect it to arrive tied to one of the new biomes or a later content wave.

More progression, decoration & polish

Beyond biomes and bosses, the developer's direction points to steady expansion of the systems already in the game:

Timing — what the devs have said

Beartwigs has been clear that they steer by content goals rather than a dated calendar. The direction we've seen:

Our take

Because dates can move, the useful signal is the order: stability and smaller content first, Swamp as the next headline biome, Ruined City and the sixth boss further out. We'll update this page the moment Beartwigs commits to anything firmer.

Common questions

When is the Swamp biome coming?

Beartwigs plans around content goals rather than firm dates. Their guidance points to a first content wave around late summer 2026, with the larger biome additions — Swamp, then Ruined City — targeted for winter. Treat any date as an estimate that can move.

How many biomes will Romestead have?

Six planned. Four are in Early Access now — Plains, Forest, Desert, and Volcanic — with Swamp and Ruined City still to come. There's no snow or tundra biome.

Is there a sixth boss?

A sixth boss, referred to in game data as a "Robot," exists in the files but isn't yet playable. The five available bosses are the Giant Owl, Cyclops, Pyzifax, Great Phoenix, and Talos Prototype.

Is Romestead still getting updates?

Yes — it's in continuous-hotfix mode on the public beta branch (the 0.25.2 line) with frequent stability and balance patches, ahead of the larger content drops later in 2026. Track them on our patch page.
