Romestead Great Phoenix of Arabia Boss Guide
Last updated: 2026-06-27
The Great Phoenix of Arabia is one of Romestead's late-game Volcanic bosses — a massive, hyper-mobile firebird with a brutal second phase. It rewards a completely different approach from the stationary Cyclops: keep moving, fight at range, and exploit the one resistance it doesn't have. Here's how to find it, summon it, and bring it down.
Stats and mechanics below reflect the current Early Access build (June 2026) from in-game data and recent player reports; we'll fold in our own playthrough notes and screenshots as we capture them. Values can shift between patches — check the patch tracker for changes.

Where to find the Phoenix
The Great Phoenix of Arabia lives in the Volcanic biome, in the southern region near the lava fields. Push into the southern interior and scan for a distinctive stone cluster — that arrangement of stones around an altar is your landmark, and it's easier to spot than the altar itself amid the visual noise of the lava.
How to summon it
In that area you'll find an altar surrounded by several stones. Destroy the altar to summon the Great Phoenix and start the fight. As with other Romestead set-pieces, only trigger it once you're geared and prepared — the lava-field surroundings are hostile before the bird even appears.
Stats & resistances
The Phoenix's resistance profile is the whole fight — it dictates what damage to bring:
| Stat | Value | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Health | ~1200 | A large pool — expect a long, patient fight. |
| Armor | 12 | Moderate flat mitigation. |
| Magic Resistance | +1200% | Scrolls / magic are useless here. Leave the Scholar kit at home. |
| Pyro Resistance | +100% | Fire damage does nothing — fitting for a firebird. |
| Knockback Resistance | +100% | You won't stagger it; don't rely on knockback. |
| Aqua Resistance | −50% | Its one weakness — water/aqua damage hits 50% harder. Favour aqua-element gear if you have it. |
Bring physical ranged damage (a bow) and, if you have access to aqua/water-element attacks, lean on them — that −50% Aqua Resistance is the fast lane. Do not bring fire or magic-scroll builds; they're hard-countered.
How to beat it
Unlike the stationary Cyclops, the Phoenix is incredibly mobile, so the turret-cheese that works on the Giant Owl won't apply cleanly here. The core plan:
- Bring a bow. You need reliable damage-at-distance because chasing it in melee wastes time and exposes you to its fire.
- Stay mobile in both phases. Keep moving, reposition constantly, and treat standing still as a death sentence.
- Be patient with your damage. With ~1200 HP and you dodging most of the time, accept that this is a war of attrition — chip safely rather than going for greedy bursts.
- Pack healing and fire/burning resistance (Aloe Salve) before you start — see the Volcanic survival kit.
Surviving phase 2
The second phase is significantly more dangerous than the first. Expect:
- Fire projectiles zipping across the screen from every angle — the arena fills with hazards.
- The bird speeds up its attacks, shrinking your reaction windows.
Prioritise dodging over damage here. Weave through the projectiles, take your hits on the bird only when there's a safe gap, and don't panic-greed — a patient phase 2 is a winnable phase 2.
Drops
The Phoenix is tied to the top end of the gear ladder — the volcanic-tier Flamen Volcanalis set sits at this stage of progression (see the weapons & armor tier list). We'll list its confirmed drop table here in full once we've farmed it ourselves; treat third-party drop lists as provisional until then.
Common questions
Where is the Great Phoenix of Arabia?
In the southern lava fields of the Volcanic biome. Look for a cluster of stones around an altar; destroy the altar to summon it.
What's the best weapon against the Phoenix?
A bow for safe ranged damage — and aqua/water-element attacks if you have them, since it takes +50% from aqua. Avoid scrolls/magic (+1200% resist) and fire (+100% resist).
Why isn't my damage working?
You're probably using magic or fire. The Phoenix hard-counters both. Switch to physical ranged (bow) or aqua damage.
How do I survive phase 2?
Stay mobile and prioritise dodging the fire projectiles over dealing damage. The bird attacks faster in phase 2, so patience wins.
