Romestead Talos Prototype Boss Guide
Last updated: 2026-06-27
The Talos Prototype is Romestead's current endgame ceiling — the highest-HP boss in the game and a genuine puzzle fight rather than a damage race. Tucked inside the Temple of Vulcan, it asks you to break through weakpoints, smash laser statues with thrown stones, and survive a brutally confined second phase. Here's how the encounter works and how to clear it.
Mechanics below reflect the current Early Access build (June 2026) from in-game data and recent player reports; we'll add our own playthrough notes and screenshots as we capture them. Details can change between patches — see the patch tracker.

Location: the Temple of Vulcan
The Talos Prototype is found inside the Temple of Vulcan, a dungeon in the Volcanic biome. As the endgame encounter, it sits behind the full volcanic gauntlet — come with top-tier gear and the volcanic survival kit (fire/poison resistance, lighting).
How the fight works
With ~1800 HP — the highest solo health pool of any boss in the game — Talos isn't beaten by raw DPS. It's a mechanics fight: you can only damage it through exposed weakpoints, and those weakpoints are shielded by laser statues you have to destroy first. The core loop is throw-a-stone, break-a-statue, hit-the-weakpoint, repeat — all while dodging its cannon fire and adds.
Phase 1: the four weakpoints
- Talos has four weakpoints, each with its own health bar.
- Only one weakpoint is attackable at a time — the active one is marked by a blue glow. Focus it; ignore the rest until they light up.
- Weakpoints are protected by laser statues. Melee characters must destroy a statue by tossing a stone onto it before they can reach the weakpoint behind it (ranged characters can shoot them).
- Elevators rise and fall throughout the phase, bringing in new enemies and fresh stones (your ammo for the statues), while Talos fires from its cannon.
Grab stones from the elevators, throw them to break the statue guarding the blue-glowing weakpoint, burn that weakpoint down, then pivot to the next as it activates — all while sidestepping the cannon and clearing adds. The environmental-throw mechanic is central here, so get comfortable picking up and hurling stones.
Phase 2: the eight statues
Phase 2 ramps the pressure hard:
- Eight laser statues are raised — four on each side — confining you to a very small area.
- You must destroy all eight, either with ranged weapons or by tossing stones.
- The main danger isn't the statues themselves but enemies in the cramped space — there's almost no room to maneuver, so adds can corner you fast.
Clear the statues efficiently and deal with adds as a priority, since being swarmed in the confined arena is what ends most attempts. A ranged weapon shines here — it lets you pop statues without surrendering what little space you have.
What to bring
- A ranged option (bow). Both phases reward hitting statues/weakpoints from distance and managing the throwing mechanic.
- Top-tier armor — Tectonic from the Cyclops at minimum; chase volcanic-tier gear (see the tier list).
- The Volcanic survival kit — fire/burning resistance (Aloe Salve), poison resistance (Antidote), lighting (Ember Orchid Lantern). Full list in the Biomes guide.
- Plenty of healing for the long, multi-stage fight.
Drops
Talos drops endgame-tier materials, reported to include the Core Vessel, Talos Plate, Talos Bolt, and Research Paper. These feed top-end crafting and the University research track. We'll confirm the full table and what each material builds once we've cleared it ourselves — treat third-party drop lists as provisional for now.
Common questions
Where is the Talos Prototype?
Inside the Temple of Vulcan dungeon in the Volcanic biome — the endgame area.
How much HP does Talos have?
About 1800 — the highest solo health pool of any boss in Romestead. It's a mechanics fight, not a DPS race.
How do I damage Talos?
Only through its weakpoints, and only the one that's glowing blue at any moment. First destroy the laser statue guarding it — toss a stone onto the statue (or shoot it), then attack the exposed weakpoint.
Why do I keep dying in phase 2?
The eight statues box you into a tiny area, and enemies swarm you there. Prioritise clearing adds and use ranged attacks to destroy statues without giving up space.
