How quests work
Romestead's quest system has two top-level categories — World Quests (long-term progression tied to gods, mostly building unlocks) and Personal Quests (the tutorial chain). World Quests live in the Quests tab of any altar's UI, organized per god.
Each quest typically asks you to offer specific items at the altar. Completing the offering unlocks new buildings, recipes, upgrade tiers, or other quest chains. Minerva is the only god without a blessing tree — her quests are her entire contribution to progression, and they gate some of the biggest unlocks in the game (including the Carpenter's Workshop).

Minerva quests
The exception god — no blessing tree, just quests, but her quests gate some of the biggest unlocks in the game. Full Minerva overview →
The Giant Owl
- Offer: Guardian's Eye (drops from the Giant Owl boss — see our Guardian guide)

The Malformed Satyr Horn
- Offer: Malformed Satyr Horn (drops from a Satyr during a raid)
- Reward: Reveals the location of Pyzifax's hideout
Profane Artifice
- Offer: Core Vessel (source TBC — likely a Volcanic boss drop)
- Unlocks: Temple (new building), Carpenter's Workshop Level 3, Flamen Volcanalis armor set at Leatherworker (Hood/Robes/Boots/Bow), Malleus Mechanicus and Flamen Volcanalis Spellblade at Blacksmith, plus Declaration of War variants for The Burning Fallen and The Cyclopelli
- Flavor: "A darkness obscures my vision, hiding in the shadows of the volcano that has burned and scarred the land..."
Ceres quests
The food and crafting backbone. Most settlement-economy unlocks come from Ceres. Full Ceres Quest Chain guide →
Honoring the Soil
- Offer: 20 Wheat (wheat can ONLY be planted in the Plains biome)
- Unlocks: Farmstead
Fruits of the Harvest
- Offer: 5 Olives + 5 Pine Nuts + 2 Cabbage
- Unlocks: Bakery
The Copper Consistency
- Offer: 5 of something (copper-related material — details still being verified)
- Unlocks: Quarry
- God attribution: appears in Ceres's quest list per our screenshots, though the flavor leans toward forge/Mars themes — we're verifying.
Honoring the Craft
- Offer: Emperor's Salad + Mushroom Skewer + Bread (plus two more Bakery dishes, 5 checkboxes total)
- Unlocks: Watermill
- Prerequisite: Functioning Bakery (from Fruits of the Harvest)
Declaration of War
- Offer: Win a raid triggered by a Declaration of War item
- Unlocks: Pottery
- How to trigger: Craft a Declaration of War (recipe unlocked by Minerva's Virgil's Poem) or grab one from a killed Satyr. Using it summons the raid; survive it.
Honoring the Art
- Offer: Scorpion Skewers (2) + Moretum and Bread (2)
- Unlocks: Garum Dolium
- Flavor: Volcanic-biome ingredients (the ash-blessed lands of Vulcan's fires)
Mars quests

Mercury quests
Art of Trade
- Offer: Details still being verified
- Unlocks: Mercury's "Art of Trade" blessing tree access (needed to spend Worship Points on his higher tiers)
Significant Pursuit
- Offer: Traveler's Coin + Research Paper
- Unlocks: University
- How to get the offerings: Traveler's Coin drops from the Cyclops (also other sources possibly). Research Paper is produced by the University once built — chicken-and-egg, so the first Research Paper likely comes from a dungeon or boss drop.
Diana quests
The Moonstring
- Offer: Moonstring artifact (found in a dungeon)
- Unlocks: (Reward details still being verified)
Hunting Armaments
- Offer: Sagittarii Bow + Bronze Arcuballista + 500 Flint Arrows + 200 Bronze Arrows

Vulcan quests
Proving your Worth

- Unlocks: Blacksmith - Level 2
- Flavor: "You fed the flame, but a flame must have purpose..."
Personal / tutorial quests
The Personal Quests tab is your tutorial chain, available from a fresh character. Each step gives small rewards (often crafting items) and progresses you through basic mechanics.
Confirmed tutorial chain (in order)
- Acquiring Materials — Collect 8 Flint Shards. (Throw Flint Rocks at regular Rocks to break them into Shards. Flint is found near water.)
- Weapons and Tools — Equip a weapon, tool, and armor. Rewards: Wooden Shield, Wooden Bow, Wooden Sandals, Flint Arrow.
- Obtain Wood Planks — Collect Wood Planks. Rewards: Workbench, Wood Stick.
- The Workbench — Place a Workbench from scratch.
- Town Core and Altar — Construct and interact with both buildings. (Town Core defines your town's center and name.)
- Populating Your Town I & II — Recruit citizens from camps in the wild.
The tutorial continues from there into mid-game milestones — we'll document additional Personal Quest steps as we observe them.
Quests we're still verifying
The following quests appear in the world-quest browser but we don't yet have confirmed offerings, rewards, or god attribution:
- Fueling the Fires — 3-step offering quest; appears in Ceres-adjacent list but flavor uncertain
- The Scent of Memory — god attribution and offerings TBC
If you've completed either of these, please flag it via the official Romestead Discord or Steam Community forums so we can update.
