Pyzifax the Satyr Boss Guide
Last updated: 2026-06-06
Pyzifax is the volcanic-biome Satyr boss in Romestead. He's one of the trickier fights — especially the 50%-HP fireball phase — and dropped the Logistics Tent until patch 0.25.1_7 (June 1, 2026) moved that reward to the Giant Owl instead. Here's the trigger, the strategy, and what to bring.

Why this fight matters
Pyzifax is the gate to the Volcanic biome's high-tier loot and Satyr-specific crafting materials. He used to also gate the Logistics Tent (the automation unlock), but as of patch 0.25.1_7 (June 1, 2026) the Tent now drops from the Giant Owl instead — meaning Pyzifax is now a mid-game gear-and-content boss rather than the automation-gate it was at launch. Still worth fighting for the unique drops and Volcanic-biome access.
How to trigger the fight
The trigger is a Quest item that drops as loot from a Satyr you kill. Full chain:
- Push into Satyr territory. The Satyrs occupy a region inside or bordering the Desert / Volcanic biome.
- Kill Satyrs. One of them will drop an item titled "Declaration of War - Pyzifax", tagged as a Quest item.
- Read the declaration. Flavor: "Fellow Mediterraneans, I am Pyzifax - Leader of the Desert Satyrs. You have been encroaching on satyr lands for far too long. My scouts have located one of your settlements, and I have readied my troops for an attack. Please accept this declaration of war so we may proceed with the attack."
-
Use the item from your inventory. The Use action is "Start a Pyzifax siege." A confirmation dialog appears warning you to have upgraded gear and town defenses ready:
The Declaration of War - Pyzifax item. Quest-tagged; dropped from a Satyr you kill. Use action: "Start a Pyzifax siege."
The confirmation dialog when you use the Declaration. The game itself warns: "It is highly recommended that you have upgraded your gear and built defenses in your nearest town." - Survive the Satyr raid on your settlement (see the next section).
- A Malformed Satyr Horn will drop from a Satyr during the raid. Pick it up.
- Offer the Malformed Satyr Horn on your altar. The quest is filed under Minerva's quest list. Completing this offering reveals the location of Pyzifax's hideout.
- Travel to the revealed hideout and fight Pyzifax himself.
Once you've completed Minerva's Virgil's Poem quest (offer a Granite Tooth on the altar), you unlock the Declaration of War as a craftable recipe. This lets you deliberately trigger Satyr raids without waiting for a drop — useful for farming.
Romestead has a craftable War Table at the Carpenter (8 Wood Plank + 1 leather). Its tooltip is "Used for creating declarations of war against the trespassers of Rome" — that's a related mechanic for declaring war on enemy factions trespassing on your lands. Pyzifax's siege uses the dedicated Declaration of War - Pyzifax item; don't conflate the two. Full breakdown in our Declaration of War guide.
Surviving the Satyr raid first
The declaration's flavor text spells it out: "I have readied my troops for an attack." Using the item brings that attack to your settlement before you get to Pyzifax himself. Before you use the declaration:
- Upgrade walls to stone at minimum if available — wood likely won't hold.
- Defensive turrets help. If you have auto-targeting defense buildings unlocked, place them covering the main approach.
- Pull citizens inside the perimeter before using the item. NPC permadeath is real — citizens caught outside can die for good.
- Patch 0.25.1_1 increased Satyr Ranger spawn rate — expect heavier ranged pressure than older guides suggest.
Until we've run this fight ourselves we're holding back on exact gear/HP/timing recommendations — some numbers floating around guide sites are from the demo build, not the live game.
Gear preparation
General rule: don't engage in leather. You want at least Bronze-tier armor and a Bronze-tier weapon (Spatha or Hasta). Stack healing foods generously — the fireball phase will eat through them. A ranged option (bow or scroll) helps for the moments when getting close is risky.
This is a Volcanic fight, which makes it a Cauldron fight too. Bring Aloe Salve (+20% Fire Resistance, +100% Burning Resistance for 5 minutes) for the fireball phase — it stacks on top of Tectonic Armor's fire resistance — and an Antidote (+100% Poison Resistance) for the Satyrs. Drink right before you engage; five minutes covers the fight. Full recipes in our items reference.
Phase 1: melee exchanges
Opening half of the fight is the standard Romestead combat dance — watch windups, dash-dodge, punish recovery. Don't get cornered against the arena geometry; the volcanic biome has obstacles that can box you in.
Phase 2: the fireball series
Around the halfway mark of the fight, Pyzifax shifts into a fireball-heavy phase. He launches a series of homing/tracking fireballs ending in a heavy telegraphed projectile.
- Watch for the staff/horn raise — that's your cue to create distance.
- Dodge laterally, not backward. Tracking projectiles lose the lock faster on lateral motion.
- Manage stamina. Running out of dodge mid-series is what gets players killed.
- After the series ends, there's a recovery window — punish then.
The boss resets to full HP on respawn. Corpse retrieval in volcanic terrain is risky — you can die again on the way back. Pack light and consider leaving your best gear in storage before engaging.
Drops
Pyzifax-specific crafting materials for endgame Satyr/Volcanic-tier gear (specifics still being documented in patches). Historically he dropped the Logistics Tent; that's been moved to the Owl as of 0.25.1_7. We're still cataloging his current confirmed loot table — will update as we kill him post-patch.
